HEY, I’M CAMERON!
I provide group and family coaching to enhance communication skills facilitated through corporate and individual partnerships.
Communication Coaching Consultants is a company designed to provide individual, group, and family partnerships to enhance communication skills. Unlike a direct therapy model, CCC works with individuals to reach their own personal communication goals.
We work with people to enhance already existing skills as well as develop new skills that will improve their communication in the desired setting—whether that be at work, home, or in the community. CCC provides clients and families with an opportunity to practice functional speech and language skills specific to the life that they live and the culture they are a part of.
Cameron McCurty, M.S. CCC-SLP
Hello! My name is Cameron McCurty. I am a Speech-Language Pathologist who works with children and adults of all ages to improve their expressive, receptive, and social language skills. I grew up in Syracuse, New York where in high school I developed an interest in public speaking and later speech pathology. I went on to study and pursue my Bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders at Nazareth College in upstate New York. At Nazareth I also received a Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology. I went on to work in the public school setting primarily with elementary and middle school students in New York and northern Virginia.
In Washington, DC I transitioned into servicing a high school age population and fell in love with teaching secondary students and young adults. With this new clientele I was able to show my students how improving their overall speech-language skills would be essential to their success after high school and in the workforce! After working for over a decade as a speech language pathologist in the school setting, I know what it truly takes to see progress in the area of communication. Rather than providing direct speech-language intervention I realized that many students I serviced did not require speech services at all. Rather they mostly benefited from parent/caregiver implementation of BASIC functional strategies to help improve their speech, language, and comprehension skills. A more family based coaching approach to communication is often what made my students successful.

What is a communication coach?
My job as your personal communication coach consultant is to help you pinpoint specific areas of weakness as it relates to your communication. Together we create long-term goals that you will target through the direct implementation of strategies. Coaching involves observing, practice, reflecting, feedback, and joint planning.
What is the difference between coaching and direct speech therapy?
- Direct speech-language therapy is conducted by a licensed speech-language pathologist. Following a comprehensive evaluation, SLP’s determine their client’s goals and create treatment plans to address these goal areas.
- A coaching model is client-directed. Coaching provides clients with opportunities to practice, refine, and analyze new and existing skills. A person does not necessarily have to have a speech-language disorder in order to participate in coaching sessions. Sessions are client-centered and promote confidence, competence, and enjoyment in your ability to communicate.
Coaching involves:
Observing – The client is observed while engaging in a typical routine or activity.
Practice – giving clients opportunities to practice new strategies in their environment of choice with a communication partner.
Reflection – client’s reflection on what is/isn’t working (and why). Generating new ideas.
Feedback – Sharing of ideas and information.
Joint Planning – with clients on their work between sessions to foster confidence, competence, and enjoyment when communicating. Preparation for next session.
Do I get to pick the days/times/location for my sessions?
Yes! You are able to schedule the days and times of your sessions based on availability on the posted calendar. If local to the Charlotte and surrounding areas you are also able to practice your skills in the community, at or home setting when possible.
Will anyone know that I am working with you?
Not unless you tell them. All coaching sessions are confidential.
How long is each session?
Initial observations and screenings are an hour in length. Virtual and in-person observation screenings range between 20-30 minutes. They are followed by a client or caregiver interview. Monthly coaching sessions can range between 30-60 minutes. Monthly social and fluency support groups are 50 minutes.
When can I expect results?
Clients are encouraged to participate in coaching a minimum of 6 months. Within 1-3 months of consistent practice, you should be able to see improvements in your target communication areas.
What is the difference between a one time consult vs. membership?
- A one-time consultation involves an in-person or recorded observation, screening, and client interview. Following the screening, you are provided with a formal write-up and recommendations for strategies to implement. Referrals are provided, as necessary.
- Membership includes monthly virtual or in person consultations, scheduled client interviews, and formal write up of goals, progress, and recommendations for strategies to implement. Clients are able to contact the coach via email, phone, and text as needed. Members have free access to e-courses, handouts, resources, and a monthly newsletter.
What determines the skills we target?
Skills targeted are determined by you and your communication coach together. This is a team approach!
Am I able to bring someone with me to my session?
Following the first couple of sessions, clients are encouraged to bring anyone to their coaching sessions who they want to practice with. Our goal is functional communication!
How do I find out if communication coaching is for me?
Shoot us an email to set up a 10-minute phone consult. I’d love to speak with you!
What if I need speech therapy or something else instead of coaching?
If it is determined that speech-language intervention is required and/or you require another specialist, you will be given a list of licensed practitioners in your area.
